Right to Education: Children with Disabilities
Did you know that under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 25% of all the seats in private and government schools are reserved for economically disadvantaged children between the age of 6 and 14 years, and 3% of these are reserved for children with disabilities, as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act?
However, a lack of infrastructure and awareness keeps children with disabilities out of schools. Only 25% of schools across the country are CWD-friendly, and only 0.96% of students admitted were CWDs in 2020-2021.
